Darjeeling Toy Train

The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway — fondly called the Toy Train — is a UNESCO World Heritage narrow-gauge railway famous for its 2-feet track. The serpentine route winds through hilly slopes, waterfalls, verdant Himalayan forests, and endless tea plantations. The Batasia Loop and Ghoom are the two most celebrated stops, offering panoramic views of snowcapped peaks and lush landscapes that leave every traveller spellbound.

Kalimpong

Perched at 1,200 metres above sea level on lush Himalayan slopes, Kalimpong is a sleepy town of remarkable charm. The Durpin Dara Observatory at 1,402 metres offers breathtaking sunrise views over Mt. Kanchenjungha. Known for its orchid nurseries, Mangal Dam, Pedong Monastery, and exquisite traditional handicrafts — including wood carvings, thanka paintings, and Tibetan jewellery — Kalimpong is a treasure trove of culture and natural beauty.

Happy Valley Tea Gardens

Established in 1854, the Happy Valley Tea Estate is one of Darjeeling's most iconic attractions. The tea bushes here are old — some over 80 years, others reaching 150 years — producing the finest Darjeeling first-flush tea. Visitors can pluck leaves, explore the processing factory, and absorb the intoxicating aroma of miles of verdant gardens stretching across the hillside.

Lloyd's Botanical Gardens

Spread across 40 acres and established in 1878, Lloyd's Botanical Gardens is a sanctuary of rare flora preserving over 150 species of cacti and succulents. During the flowering season, its Orchid collection draws nature lovers from across the world, making it one of the most visited green spaces in the Eastern Himalayas.

Victoria Falls

A beloved picnic destination, Victoria Falls cascades dramatically from 100 feet through deep ravines into the valley below. A ferro-concrete bridge spans the stream, offering a soul-stirring vantage point to watch the gushing waters against the backdrop of misty Himalayan greenery.

Passenger Ropeway

One of Darjeeling's most sought-after experiences, the passenger ropeway begins at North Point, about 3 km from town, and stretches 5 kilometres to Singla Bazaar. Gliding over the Ranjit River at the valley floor, the ride delivers sweeping aerial views of tea estates, deep gorges, and the rolling hills that define this magical region.

Other must-visit attractions include Kanchenjungha, Sandakphu, the Everest Museum, Bengal Natural History Museum, Aloobari Gompa, Ghoom Monastery, and many more hidden gems waiting to be explored.
